They’re alive!

Delicate Riesling buds survive so far!  More fun tomorrow morning, with temperatures dipping, for sure.  Winds are brisk now (to say the least–up to 40 mph), which would prevent frost, but winds are scheduled to die down by morning.  With the dry weather, no open fires are allowed, and should not be.  So the best we can come up with is to use Big Bertha and contained propane heaters.

Getting ready for the Big Chill

Party in the vineyard at 3:00 a.m.  Jim and Jerry fired up Big Bertha to pull warmer air from the ridge down to the cold vines–they really appreciated the warmth and showed their appreciation by surviving the 26 degree temperature.  So far, so good

Jake’s view of the Winemakers’ Roundtable

“They sure wasted a lot of good wine… no body even drank a drop…just sniffed, swirled, sipped, and spit…. sometimes I just don’t understand humans.”

Jake’s Journal– a Dog’s Blog

Jake here– Such a nice Winter Day, think I’ll take a few minutes to share the goings on at the vineyard….but first, look at what I was left out of..

Some of our fine folks decided to visit the Virginia Veterans’ Care Center with their dogs, Maggie and Kodi.  Don’t know why they didn’t bring me– maybe it is because I am SO big and might scare people.

Maggie got to talk with a very famous  gentleman who trained dogs when he was in the Air Force.  Boy, did he ever like Maggie–think it was that party collar she had on!
